NA LUDOTECA

I have to admit that one of the things that made me feel more nervous about my volunteer service was to work with kids, was difficult for me to imagine myself working with kids and maybe because of that I decided to do it. I had been a coach of a team, but I was not sure of being able to spend so much time with them and I already knew that patience was not among my virtues. As if that was not enough I had an added difficulty, the language, despite the fact that I was supposed to be able to speak Portuguese, it has been long time not practicing it. Luckily the adaptation was very fast and in a few days I was doing things that one month before I couldn’t even imagine.

AULAS DE PORTUGUÊS

Since I knew that I was going back to Portugal, I decided to use this opportunity to learn Portuguese. I knew that I was going to take classes when I arrive so I was really motivated.

CAMPOS DE FÉRIAS DE VERÃO

The days are getting shorter and colder, and so the yearning for summer starts to grow more and more. The summer in Ludoteca was mainly characterized by the seven weeks of Campos de Férias, seven weeks in which the children did not spend as usual two hours in AJD, but more or less the whole day. The days were mainly characterized by sunshine, children's laughter and lots of fun and games.

OFICINAS DE INGLÊS

Summer holidays began and thus the “Campos de Férias” and my “Oficinas de Inglês” in Ludoteca to continue the work of the previous volunteers. So I started to carry out English classes twice per week for primary and secondary school children.

YEAR OF PORTUGAL

Almost one year ago I knew, that this for me will be different than the previous. I received information from my sending organization – Piaskowy Smok, that in the distant Portugal, Associação Juvenil de Deão decided that I will be their volunteer. I have not a lot time to prepare, because until the last day I worked in another city. Quick packing and 8/31/2016 I was in a country with a different culture and totally incomprehensible for me language.

Olá! Tudo bem?

There isn't a lot I can say about my time as an EVS volunteer that I haven't already said or written. Oh, how time flies! It feels as if just last week I started my European Voluntary Service, arriving in Deão full of excitement and curiosity, nervous to meet my new colleagues and see the place I would work in. Now my 10 months have passed, my project is over and Gretel and I had to say our goodbyes.

ATE LOGO, NAO ADEUS

"Tan lines will fade, but memories last forever" - This is one of the quotes I have read while still in Portugal that could perfectly sum up both my time spent there and the emotions after my return.

ENGLISH CLUB

We intended this blog not only for providing the readers with news about our experience in Portugal but also for giving the young people we work with a mean to express their thoughts and feelings about their surroundings. So today we bring you again a guest article by Beatriz Marques, a seventh-grader from the school in Lanheses talking about the English Club we have outlined to foster the kids' orality and feel for the language.
